Profile of Pelido by Lisa Burtenshaw
My first love was horses but being one of 7 children, could never own one as a child. My family kept all manner of small livestock, dogs ,cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks and ferrets.
My training started at Treetops Kennels in 1956,this was shortly after the famous greyhound,Treetops Golden Falcon won Best in Show at Crufts. At that time the Kennels were situated on the outskirts of Shamley Green, and was also famous for Treetops Cocker Spaniels. My training covered all aspects of kennel work which covered matings, whelpings, puppy rearing, trimming and grooming.I also learned to hand milk Mimosa , a Jersey cow.On leaving school, was offered permanent employment. It was a priviledge to train in this Kennel.
After marriage to Peter, exhibited Rabbits with some success.

Moving to our current address nearly 40 years ago, owned Hazel our pet Jersey cow and Playboy, a retired polo pony. When Playboy died, we took on Rhonty, a Chestnut Arab, sadly no longer with us, they are at rest in the paddock.

Our first Rough Collie was obtained in 1968. First litter in 1970. In the following years, owned or bred 27 UK Champions in all 3 colours and both sexes.
The Kennel has been licensed since 1973, when the Breeding of Dogs Act came into being.
Pelido is a combination of the first two letters from Peter, Lisa and Douglas, our son.
